A short summary about MOI:
Mom of 2 boys (the other one being my husband, hee hee)
Swim coach
Live in the suburbs
Currently studying to become a licensed paramedic
LOVE being active
What inspired me to start all this?
I've always been an active person, played sports in high school, worked out, etc. After having my son, I felt that I've let myself go, and I think all moms can relate to this at some level. Fitness went downhill, I didn't care about what I looked like, nor what I ate. My little one was the center of my universe, it was no longer about me.
Shortly after mat leave, I started to feel the effects of "new mommy" stress. Work life suffered a little bit, I had absolutely no energy or focus. Home life, well, my husband an I arrive home from work, gobbled up whatever was in the fridge or bought take out, played with the little one for a bit before passing out. (Again, working moms, you know how this feels!!)
Wash, rinse, repeat......basically what my life felt like for 3 months.
So I took charge!!
It took one look in the mirror (and a few outfits that didn't fit anymore) for me to snap out of this stagnant lifestyle. I spoke to a dear friend about this and his words still ring in my head to this day....... "If you don't take care of yourself properly, it will be hard for you to take care of your family properly." As selfish as this may sound, there is much truth to this statement. He compared it to the safety talk airlines give to passengers prior to take off, specifically regarding the oxygen mask...."please put your own mask first before helping children and/or the elderly". To me, it made a lot of sense. My family is my priority....how am I supposed to take care of them fully if I'm not taking care of myself? What example am I giving my child when he sees mommy eat unhealthy food? It's the little things that add up.
ANYWAYS, 40 pounds later........
Long story short, I started a fitness routine with the help of my amazing husband/personal trainer extraordinaire. Changed my diet back to healthy, whole foods and a year and a half later I lost all my baby weight plus a bit more. I have tons of energy (which is absolutely necessary to keep up with a 2 year old boy) and overall I felt amazing and most importantly, happy.
My Blog
My goal is to simply share my passion with others, to inspire and motivate moms who feel that they too have let themselves go after having children. Throughout all this, I've learned that being a mom is not an excuse to let yourself go. Being a mom is one of the most amazing milestones in every woman's life, celebrate it by feeling happy, healthy, and looking fab!! :)
Don't believe me?
YES....you can still live a sustainable healthy lifestyle.
YES...you can still look and feel beautiful.
YES...you can still wear those heels and skinny jeans.
YES....go ahead, buy that red lipstick.
YES....that 21 year old boy, yeah he just checked you out.
BUSY?.....i'm sure you can spare less than 15 seconds a day to spit out 10 squats (more fun if you're holding a toddler)
I'm super excited and looking forward to providing you with fresh new blogs each week!! Enjoy!!
<3 Maria
